Job Opening for Executive Director
The McDowell County Convention and Visitors Bureau is seeking an Executive Director. This position will work in a growing tourism area surrounded by rich history, scenic views, the arts, outdoor adventure and the Hatfield McCoy Trail System. Work, play and market beautiful McDowell County, West Virginia and all it has to offer!
McDowell County is home to over 350 miles of ATV trails. The trails bring in thousands of visitors every year. In addition to the Hatfield McCoy Trail System, McDowell County is rich in coal mining, railroad, Hatfield McCoy Feud and military history. Appalachian heritage runs deep in the heart of the county through its arts, food and storytelling.
The McDowell County Convention and Visitors Bureau exists to establish and develop McDowell County as an exciting destination for tourists. The CVB’s goal is to promote the area, local businesses, events and activities to develop the region as a place for adventurers to explore. The mission is to promote tourism within McDowell County, serve tourists traveling for both business and recreation, aid in advertising for local businesses and more importantly to showcase what McDowell County has to offer.
The position of Director will direct the development and satisfaction of visitors to McDowell County, West Virginia. This position will also endeavor to highlight each community of the county while creating a county wide brand for marketing. Funds management and budgeting is a critical component of the director position.
Requirements:
Training and Experience: Ideally a degree in marketing, hospitality, or a closely related field, and 1 to 2 years experience in sales or any combination of training and experience which provide the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
Applicant must reside in McDowell County within 90 days of accepting the position.
Critical Skills Needed:
Customer Service Skills: Ability to provide excellent customer service to visitors. In addition, to build relationships with residents, elected officials and local businesses in promoting McDowell County.
Language Skills: Ability to write and communicate at a very high level.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office and QuickBooks.
Physical Environment: Must be able to lift small loads from floor to waist up to 25 pounds.
Essential Behavior Dimensions: Managing Work, Building Strategic Relationships and Sales Ability, Adaptability, Customer Focus.
