We have lived in this house since 1972, at that time it was a duplex. After a few occupants living next door and we decided to purchase the entire property. It sat for awhile and I always had thoughts to remodel and turn it into a bed and breakfast. In 2007, I began the transformation and in the next following years through much effort it was ready for use in 2018. I started the business and named it Mama Dood’s after the nickname of my wife’s mother. I wanted to reflect that it is a home style place that you can come and relax in a clean and quiet atmosphere. It is close to the Hatfield-McCoy Warrior Trail head in Gary, WV.
All rooms have two beds and are mostly full size. We have a downstairs room with it’s own bath and it comes with a queen and a twin. The upstairs rooms share a common bath down the hall. We have a small dining area where you can fix a meal using either a microwave, gas grill on porch, toaster oven and small refrigerator for your convenience. Free coffee, water and wifi are included. We provide some simple breakfast (snacks, fruit, etc.).
Our area is full of outlaw as well as H/M trails with different difficulty levels. Close to the local gas and market. There is other things to do here, fishing and hunting , for example. The area depended on coal for it’s existence and there are interesting sights to visit. We are just a few miles from Miracle Mountain Park that offers camping , playground, picnic area and cabins.
