“Terror of the Tug” McDowell County’s own outdoor drama returns to the McArts Amphitheater near Mount View High School in Welch. The 2018 production is scheduled for only one performance in Welch on Saturday, July 28th. The performance starts at 8:00PM. Please bring your lawn chair and enjoy the performance. Tickets for performances will be sold at the box office only.

“Terror of the Tug”, the play about the coal mining wars in Southern West Virginia and written by local playwright Jean Battlo of Kimball, was invited to membership in the Institute of Outdoor Drama (UNC) in 2005. McArts was invited and performed this historical drama at Concord College (2004) and in Morgantown in September, 2006. The performance is based on the historical events leading up to the murders of Matewan Police Chief Sid Hatfield and his friend and Deputy Ed Chambers on the steps of the McDowell County Courthouse in Welch, on August 1, 1921.

Also for one night only, invited back by popular demand, there will be a performance once again this year at the Pipestem Resort Amphitheater on Saturday, August 4 at 8:00PM.  Seating is provided, you will not need to bring your lawn chair. For further information you may call 304-436-2609. The cast of McArts Players is made up this year with actors and actresses from McDowell and Mercer County.
